Hurt Locker beats Avatar

three oscars

Hurt Locker which earned less than 2% of Avatar’s box collection, won six Oscars compared to three by Avatar. Avatar was a movie based on the theme of human greed which could someday make the environment unlivable. On the contrary, Hurt Locker was a movie based on Iraq, bombs and army. Avatar was one of the biggest 3D movies ever made and it has revolutionized the way movies are made. Every screen of this movie is made using sophisticated technologies many of which was specially designed for this movie. Reviews all over the world indicated that Avatar will rule the Oscars but the result has disappointed many movie buffs all over the world, especially from the developing nations. People in these countries could relate to Pandora more than the bomb diffusion. Although Hurt Locker was more practical, people in developing nations prefer environment.

Gabbar

Gabbar

“Ye haath mujhe de de Thakur”, is one of the many famous dialogue of this movie. It is said that the film industry of India is categorized as pre Sholey and post Sholey. The book written by Anupama Chopra is crispy and covers even the finest details about the movie from concept to release. The author has penned down even the details like how the name of the characters ‘Gabbar’, ‘viru’ & ‘Jai’ evolved. It also covered the problems faced by the movie because of the censor board. It revealed that the story had a different ending, in which Gabbar was to be killed brutally by Thakur. Alas! it was changed on the request of the censor boards just two months before the release date of the evangelical brand Sholey. » Read more: Book review: The making of the classic “Sholey”

Aamir Khan vs Chetan Bhagat – Controversy over 3 idiots

January 1st, 2010

Aamir 3 Idiots -GolmuriAamir 3 Idiots -Golmuri3 idiots has been in the limelight for quite some time , starting with the great hype and publicity surrounding the movie. Within days of the release, the movie has created a box office history and is being rated as one of the top movies of the decade, collecting close to Rs 175 crore.

The movie is based on the theme of the famous book by Chetan Bhagat- Five Point Someone.

Chetan Bhagat claims that he has not been given due credit for the movie by mentioning his name at the end of the movie , thus making sure that a large percentage of the audience would surely miss seeing it.

Aamir spoke against Chetan stating that he believes that Chetan is trying to take the credit away from the people who have worked on the scripts. He believes that Abhijat, the film writer, who has worked on the script for the last three years  should be given credit for the movie.

Aamir states that Chetan Bhagat had once himself admitted that the film was very different from the book and that the success of the film has provoked Bhagat to try a stunt at gaining some publicity for himself.

Aamir also confessed that though Abhijat had taken the idea from Chetan’s book, Abhijat had in fact changed the script entirely.

Movie Review – Taare Zameen Par

December 29th, 2009

Taare Zameen ParAmazingly crafted simple but very strong story by Aamir Khan… The movie is a rebuff on the whole Indian education system and the society which regards Doctors, Engineers, etc. as demigods and artists, poets’ profession as futile wastage of time. True, money is an important aspect no doubts but the former mentioned careers are not the only way to success and fame. Just because these are ’safe careers’ who wants to venture on something new or take a risk of encouraging one’s child to become a painter? In the rat race for clinging on to anything which brings money, we have actually forgotten that to love the thing you do, you have to listen to your heart and not mind. This realization does come. Sometimes luckily sooner, sometimes unfortunately later.

The movie’s first part beautifully potrays » Read more: Movie Review – Taare Zameen Par

Movie Review – Dor

December 29th, 2009

I don’t know why but there is a strange sense of simplicity in Nagesh kukoonoor’s movies. Everytime I see any of his movies, it puts a smile on my face and hope in my heart.

I saw his movie Dor. Beautifully cinematographed, it really captures the essence of my native place -Rajasthan. I honestly felt like going there after watching the movie. Though there are beautifully captured scenes from Kashmir too but the movie is more centralized on desert motif. There is one good dialogue in the movie saying Rajasthan has its own enigmatic beauty in scorching heat and barren lands.

Movie starts off slowly but gets going » Read more: Movie Review – Dor

Indian Beer Market

August 21st, 2009

The beer market in India is growing at more than 12% per annum! Who is driving this growth? Young Indians loaded with high disposable income are the backbone of the beer market in India.

The U.S. beer market has changed dramatically over decades. Earlier the beer market was run by Macro Brewers like Lager beers. Beer was sold in truck loads almost like commodities. Then in 1990s came the second generation which invloved micro brewers. High quality Ales, Stouts and porters. » Read more: Indian Beer Market

Lords of The Frauds

August 14th, 2009

How powerful can a person be? Or How sustainable are the financial explosions?

The world economy is like a fire which when uncontrolled can create havoc. A well controlled fire can run an engine, spread peace, provide light or cook food but if uncontrolled can gulp in the safest buildings like World Trade Centre or cause distructions like bombs. What is similar between the trend of world economy and fire?

The world economy is seen to follow a smooth curve unless something like a bomb disturbs it. The bomb fuels the economy tremendously, after which there is a sudden dip in economy as if the economy is lacking fuel. » Read more: Lords of The Frauds

Five Years from Now – A Poem on Corporate Life

November 12th, 2008

I am here to ask a few questions,
So where do you see yourself five years from now.

I will tell you what I see,
I see you spending days and nights at work,
Staying away from your loved ones,
Ignoring them as they wait
Wait for you to come home,
A wait that ends with nights of loneliness
Spent away as you work.

You live a life exploiting yourself,
Leave alone exploiting others,
Forgetting the very reason why you live.
Is it to earn millions?
Is it to complete a deadline on time?
To work, and work and just work?

Is this the life you asked the almighty for,
A life with no time for others
A life where you leave everyone behind,
