What is oneworld?

February 25th, 2010

Oneworld
OneWorld is one of the world’s three largest global alliances of airlines. It was formed in 1999 by American Airlines, British Airways, Canadian Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qantas Airways. It was formed with a vision to generate more value to customers than any airline could do alone. Together they have more than 2200 aircraft and service more than 720 destinations in 142 countries.
How do they create value for the customers?
The group members have set operations and maintenance standards which help each member to provide the best services in its region. Oneworld was also the first alliance to introduce interline e-ticketing which gave travelers reach out the remotest of places without any hassle. Apart from this the every customer of this alliance have access to the airport lounges of any member airline. This optimizes the capacity utilization of private lounges and increase the ROI for airlines. This was one of the main reason for which the member airlines experienced minimum loss compared to others during the recent financial crisis.
Recently, Vijay Mallya lead Kingfisher Airlines has signed a memorandum to join this alliance. Post which it will become the first Indian company to join this alliance. Earlier Kingfisher bought Deccan Airlines to end the price war in India but still the airlines industry in India is facing substantial losses. However, this move of Kingfisher might help this airline create more value for its customers and the shareholders.

Gateway_of_Dharmasthala
This temple town is similar to university towns across the world. Everything in this town is managed by the temple trust, from food to lodging. It is located on the banks of the river Nethravathi, in the Dakshina Kannada district. It is a scenic drive from Bangalore (275Km) or just 100 Kms from the biggest university town of India, Manipal. Dharmasthala has a lovely Manjunatha temple, with a Lord Shiva Idol. This temple is visited by more than 10000 people daily and it is most crowded on Mondays and holidays. The town also has one of the remotest vintage car museums where you can spot Cadillacs, Rolls-Royeces, Dodges and Renaults. To your surprise all these cars are in running condition. You can also visit the Manjusha Art Museum which has some unique collections.
The operations beauty of this place is to see the temple volunteers serve tens of thousands of visitors piping hot meal everyday. The moment you sit for the lunch, within one minute you will be served the leaf and delicious food pours in almost instantly. It hardly takes 9 minutes to finish the lunch from start to finish. And all this happens simultaneously for a batch of more than thousand people in a huge hall.

January 26th, 2010

IMG_5258Yeracadu – lake forest is what it means. A true gem in Shevaroy hills!

A little known hill station in Tamil Nadu near Salem, this place is more of a discovery. Infamously known as ‘poor man’s Ooty’, I’d rather call it ‘for those who are bugged of crowded and polluted hill stations like Ooty’. Yercaud has its own charm and beauty which you fall in love with soon after landing there.

First place which you’d invariably land up is Yercaud lake. First day of our trip » Read more: Yercaud – a gem in Shevaroy Hills!

December 30th, 2009

DSC00518130 kms from Bangalore, this lesser known heaven, can be reached by state buses connecting Hosur to Tirupattur and from there on to Yelagiri Hills. Situated at about a height of 1600 m above sea level, this is one trip one will not forget in a hurry. This is actually a wide range of hills. The base of the hill is the small, sleepy town of Tirupattur. Once you reach there, your journey becomes all the more exciting, because for the next one hour you will be thrilled to watch some magnificent views of the ground below you. A through and through hill, the bus will trail along the steep edges which will surely give you the butterfly effect in your stomach! » Read more: Yelagiri Hills

Nandi Hills

The Nandi Hills

At first it is hard to believe that there is such a place like this so near to Bangalore – 60 kms from Majestic to Chikbalapur, and then 30 kms from there to Nandi Hills. This place is so full of hills and terrain that at some heights you can see no ground beneath you – only clouds. So, ideally, one should plan when the sun is not so bright. The Hills are majestic – no rough and tough trekking, only gentle slopes if you follow the normal route – though you should be very wary of the monkeys that seem to have an upper hand there! If the weather is favorable, then you » Read more: Nandi Hills

Skandagiri Sight Seeing – Places around Bangalore

December 29th, 2009

To Heaven and Back! – a place above clouds!

There are some places in the world where nature just overwhelms you with its beauty and grandeur… Skandagiri is surely one of them!

Although famous for its moon light trek, we decided to reach there early morning and give a shot on this moderate rated trek.

Chilly winds swept by as our bike engines blared on the Bangalore-Hyderabad highway in the wee hours of Christmas eve (Was good to compete with Santa on his reindeer drive :) ).
Reaching this place was a bit of pain as we took a shortcut to state highway and got confused (Should have stuck to NH and reached Chikballapur). Finally reached the » Read more: Skandagiri Sight Seeing – Places around Bangalore
