Movie Review – Dor

I don’t know why but there is a strange sense of simplicity in Nagesh kukoonoor’s movies. Everytime I see any of his movies, it puts a smile on my face and hope in my heart.

I saw his movie Dor. Beautifully cinematographed, it really captures the essence of my native place -Rajasthan. I honestly felt like going there after watching the movie. Though there are beautifully captured scenes from Kashmir too but the movie is more centralized on desert motif. There is one good dialogue in the movie saying Rajasthan has its own enigmatic beauty in scorching heat and barren lands.

Movie starts off slowly but gets going when Gul reaches Rajasthan in search of Ayesha Takia. The character of Shreyas is well crafted but the real show stealer was Ayesha. I seriously couldn’t imagine anyone else in that simple yet so strong role. There were some real good scenes, the best scene was obviously when Ayesha gives the mafinama to Gul with a smile on her face.

The director has beautifully elicited out great performances from all of the actors. Indian cinema is truly now heading towards maturity and depth in stories with such kind of movies.
