What is simulation? Simulation is the imitation of some real thing or process. Simulation has become a key method of research and development due to its cost advantages over the real scenario. The IT industry has revolutionized the way we simulate. Simulation models can be developed in three ways: first by useng programming languages like C,C++ & Java; second by using advanced softwares like Arena, GPSS & SIMAN; third by developing simulation environment. Simulation is used in many critical places where cost and risk is high. The space simulation experiments at space research institutes create an artificial environment with similar characteristics like gravity, light and atmosphere. In marketing, companies conduct virtual experiments by creating a sample buying environment to study the consumer buying behavior. The famous Pablo’s experiment was also an example of simulation. The automobile giants organize simulated accidents to test the strength of their vehicles. Lately simulation has gained importance in industries to study situations which would cost billions if experimented in real life.

Simulation involves defining the real scenario in term of variables for which values are provided to know the real outcome. The key to good simulation lies with the perfection in defining the variables. The queueing models are studied with great precision using this technique. Worlds largest queues have been studied and made more efficient by simulation. The opportunities with it is unlimited, it depends on the user to explore this method for his/her objective.
